What is it?
Joint disease can be due to a number of conditions such as septic arthritis, osteoarthritis and osteochondritis dissecans as well as trauma and injury.
What are the symptoms?
Variable severity of lameness, heat, swelling, stiffness, poor performance.
How is it diagnosed?
Injection of local anaesthetic into the joint and assessment of gait before and after (joint block). Also radiographs, surgery, nuclear scintigraphy, ultrasonography and arthroscopy.
How is it treated?
Treatment depends on disease but may be medical or surgical.
